About Face

Why did this happen?
I don’t understand.
I was headed the direction
I thought You had planned!

Now suddenly here
I must turn “about face”—
Leave my heart behind
While continuing the race.

I have “lost my life”
For your sake, I know. ¹
Take me to the place
Where Your life in me shows.

Though Your will seems hard—
Though “sight” cannot see—
“Faith” trusts the One ²
Who loves and died for me. ³

Have you ever started in one direction, only to be stopped in your tracks, needing to reevaluate or ditch that plan? It’s often not a fun experience… more like a traumatic experience, not to mention humbling. Being rejected by a love interest or a loved one, not getting the job you thought you would, being fired from the job you had, moving to a new place only to discover you need to move again just when you were feeling comfortable… all of these examples and many more are occasions for people to question God’s leading.

Is this my fault, or is God playing games with my life? Did I misunderstand God’s leading? Or, does God even care about my emotions? Maybe this is just about other people getting in the way of God’s will for me.

The bottom line is that if God loves us so much that He’s willing for His Son to suffer and die on our behalf, then we can trust Him. God really does love us and will use our “about-face” for good in our lives and our loved ones’ lives, regardless of who caused the U-turn.
