All Pride
I’m the best
You’re the worst
I’m sorry (not really)
I’m always right
That’s not my fault
I’m not going to overlook this
I’m not going to flex
Well, duh
(I’m smarter than you)
I’m not surprised
I told you so
I already knew that
What did I tell you?
I don’t need any help
I’m fine

We have all said, or at least heard, the things in this list at one time or another. Given the right context in a conversation between two people, any one of these statements could be either benign, lies, or prideful. Some are obvious. Others are more subtle.
For example, “I don’t need any help,” may be true and accurate or may be a lie or a false statement. Sometimes the person is either too embarrassed to ask for help (lying is a backwards form of pride) or too full of themselves (more classic pride) to realize a need for help with something actually beyond their capabilities. Let’s all try a little harder to be more honest and more sensitive.
