Imagine No Imagination

Imagine a world without imagination.
Imagine that – because you can!

No more impressionistic or modern art,
or any other kind of art.
No more novels for adults.
No more Fairy Tales for children.
No more songs, music, plays, or poetry.

No more space programs, mathematics,
or scientific discoveries.
No more electricity, penicillin,
telephones, computers,
cars, trains, or planes.

A world of being, surviving, and dying.
Never wondering, dreaming, experimenting.
No scheming about love interests or the future.
Only biological and chemical reactions
and survival of the fittest.

No hope in the God of love and creativity.
Death with a period after it.
And why neither God nor afterlife?
We cannot imagine what we cannot see or touch.
Therefore, they must not exist.

And yet, here we are – the magnum opus
of the God of creation and creativity,
who made male and female in His image.
The God who imagined and created us is real.
So, imagine that – because you can!

I had a hard time deciding what sort of photo to pair with this poem. Should it showcase a very modern building? How about a creative sculpture, or an impressionist painting with vibrant colors? Or, should I find a photo of the opposite, something quite unimaginative and boring? I obviously chose the latter, a bland apartment building. A world without imagination strikes me as being like seeing the world in black and white.
