Life is Hard
Life is hard
Most every day.
Filled with labor
Bills to pay.
Filled with news
Shocking and sad.
Stressful people
Harsh and mad.
Filled with those who
Break their word,
Who disappoint or
Repeat what they’ve heard.
Life is hard
Chores never end.
Aches and illness
Are unwanted friends.
Burdened mind
Can’t carry the load.
Jesus points to a
Different road.
“Come to Me...
I will give you rest.” ¹
“Take my yoke...” ²
When you feel stressed.
“Learn from Me...
My burden is light.
Your soul will find rest” ²
From your temporal fight.
Matthew 11: 28
Matthew 11: 29 - 30

I don’t know about you, but I need this reminder today—as I type this comment—just as much as I did when I wrote the poem, years ago. Life is a privilege, but also a challenge! If we are “weary and burdened,” we are told to “come” to Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30). In other words, we must believe He can help us, then pray and give Him our concerns.
He also says, in exchange, there is a “yoke” we must wear after we come to Him. What is that yoke? Giving the control of our lives to God, to direct us where we should go. But, take heart. Jesus also says, “… you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
