Dancing is Life
Don’t say you don’t know
how to dance. You do!
Let me show you where—
if that won’t embarrass you.
You dance at the disco
even if you dance lame.
You dance in the shower
with a song on the brain.
You’ll dance in the kitchen
when the Beatles play,
or to Taylor Swift
on your iPhone today.
We bounce up and down,
we all clap our hands,
at a raucous rock concert
or with a marching band.
We do “The Wave” at events,
with both hands held high,
or we wipe away tears
as we’re waving goodbye.
The elderly dance
wherever I go, keeping
time with their heads
or with tapping toes.
Even children know how
to dance. They’re free
from the embarrassment
that limits you and me!
Body movements for joy,
or for love or sorrow,
must be danced today!
We’re not promised tomorrow.
